Iron Sword wins Listowel finale

Iron Sword (FR) followed up a Ballinrobe maiden success with a comfortable three-and-a-half-length victory in the Listowel Printing (Pro-Am) INH Flat Race under Mr A P Ryan. Sent off the 4/6 favourite, the four-year-old son of For Fun always looked in command and ran out an impressive winner of the Listowel finale. The yard always held the horse in high regard and felt he would have made a winning debut at the Punchestown Festival before things went against him. A troubled run at Roscommon followed, where the horse would have won, before he got off the mark at Ballinrobe on 11 September. Iron Sword now goes on his holidays after four runs as a four-year-old and will not be seen until next spring. 'The horses are going great, thank God, and we like this horse. We thought he'd win at the Punchestown Festival on his debut run so were disappointed, although he got a bit excited and ran too keen. He then got wiped out at Roscommon, where he'd have won, and then won the last day. He will go eating grass now as he's had four runs as a four-year-old, and won't be seen until next spring.' — Andrew Slattery, trainer
