Socrates Smiled (IRE) wins bumper at Wexford

Socrates Smiled (IRE) made a winning debut for the yard in the Irish EBF (Mares) (Pro-Am) INH Flat Race at Wexford, taking the two-mile-one-furlong bumper by seven lengths. Always prominent under Mr Adam Ryan, the Blue Bresil filly hit the front over a furlong out and stretched clear of Certavi Et Vici to score as the 5/6 favourite. "She's a nice filly, and we couldn't see her beat coming here off her work at home," said Ryan. "Even before her summer break, she was doing it in schooling races and things. She's after coming forward physically for the summer break. When she hit the front today, she idled plenty. I don't know how much I had left. She was very good. In a better race, I think you'll see an awful lot more improvement. She hasn't been on grass with the way the year has gone, so I think everything about today is going to bring her forward. It's probably better that she didn't have a gruelling race today for the future."
